MIRI Time-Series Observations
MIRI fully supports time-series observations (TSOs) with the imager, low-resolution spectrometer (LRS), and with the medium-resolution spectrometer (MRS) only with partial pipeline support.
The stability of the JWST observatory enables very precise spectro- and imaging photometry of time-variable objects. Such TSOs will be useful for characterizing transiting exoplanets, and other time-variable sources such as brown dwarfs, eclipsing binaries, cataclysmic variables, X-ray binaries and more.
MIRI currently allows for TSO observations in the following modes:
For advice on how to plan TSOs with MIRI, please see the JWST Time-Series Observations Roadmap and JWST Example Science Programs articles.
