MIRI Time-Series Observations
MIRI fully supports time-series observations (TSOs) with the imager, low-resolution spectrometer (LRS), and medium-resolution spectrometer (MRS). Currently, MIRI MRS TSOs have only partial pipeline support.
The stability of the JWST observatory enables very precise spectroscopy and imaging photometry of time-variable objects. Such TSOs are ideal for characterizing transiting exoplanets and other time-variable sources such as brown dwarfs, eclipsing binaries, cataclysmic variables, X-ray binaries, and more.
MIRI currently allows for TSO observations in the following modes:
For advice on how to plan TSOs with MIRI, please see the JWST Time-Series Observations Roadmap and MIRI TSO Recommended Strategies articles.
