NIRCam IPR Imaging Template Parameters
JWST's NIRCam IPR Imaging Engineering template, available in the Astronomer’s Proposal Tool (APT), is used for calibration observations for the NIRCam instrument.
Introduction
These parameters are required to obtain observations with the IPR wedges while flashing the LED lamps. The data will be analyzed to measure the wavefront error internal to NIRCam, and to track that WFE over time. Calibration measurements will be taken based on the combination of Module and LED Lamp.
The NIRCam IPR Imaging template consists of the following parameters:
Field | Details | Values | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
General Information | |||
Observation Number | assign observation number | number | |
Observation Label | provide observation label | text | optional |
Observations Comments | provide observation comments | text | optional |
Target Name | select Target Name | choose from list | from Target List |
Special Requirements | specify special requirements | choose from list | if needed |
Template Specific Information | |||

select LED Lamp | choose from list |
General Information
The following parameters are generic to all templates, and are not discussed in this article: Observation Number, Observation Label, Observations Comments, Target Name, and Special Requirements.
Target Name
Select the TARGET NAME from the list of targets previously entered (see list of targets).
Module
MODULE [MODULE] = A, B, ALL, ASHORT, ALONG, BSHORT, BLONG
This parameter specifies the module that is to be used. The modules are defined in Table 1.
Table 1. IPR Modules
Module | Definition | LED Lamp | No. of Exposures |
---|---|---|---|
A | All short and long wavelength detectors in Module A | REDUNDANT | 9 |
B | All short and long wavelength detectors in Module B | BOTH | 15 |
B | All short and long wavelength detectors in Module B | PRIME | 9 |
ALL | All detectors in Module A and then all detectors in Module B | BOTH | 24 |
ALL | All detectors in Module A and then all detectors in Module B | REDUNDANT | 15 |
ASHORT | All 4 SCAs in the short wavelength detector for Module A | REDUNDANT | 6 |
ALONG | The long wavelength detector in Module A | REDUNDANT | 3 |
BSHORT | All 4 SCAs in the short wavelength detector for Module B | BOTH | 12 |
BSHORT | All 4 SCAs in the short wavelength detector for Module B | PRIME | 6 |
BSHORT | All 4 SCAs in the short wavelength detector for Module B | REDUNDANT | 6 |
BLONG | The long wavelength detector in Module B | PRIME | 3 |
Note for developers: The No. of exposures is the number of exposures that will be taken by the OSS scripts when executing the IPR imaging template, which have an exposure time of approximately 42 seconds each, with 1 additional second of overhead included. The timing of this template is all reported as instrument overheads in APT.
LED Lamp
LED LAMP [LEDLAMP] = PRIME, REDUNDANT, BOTH
This parameter specifies the LED lamp that is to be used.
